The Changing Face of Beauty?

The May issue of Marie Claire features Jessica Simpson on the cover.  That may not be surprising, but what about the fact that she has on no makeup, her hair is simply air-dried, and most amazing — they claim that the photos have not been re-touched!   I’m impressed by both the magazine and Jessica and applaud them both.  How refreshing to see someone for who they are, especially being this pretty to start with!

How sad for societies to only value beauty that can be washed away each day, and definitions of beauty that nobody can live up to.

Jessica’s new VH1 series, “The Price of Beauty” is a series that takes her around the world to discover firsthand the often archaic and unusually extreme measures women take to be considered beautiful within their own cultures, showing how subjective “beauty” is.

She also has begun her own outreach, “Beautiful Me” where she is working hands-on with grade school to college-aged students to improve their self-image and self-esteem.   Helping young girls recognize their own individual beauty provides tools they need to help combat the uncountable images of unattainable “beauty” that we all confront each day.

If you are thinking this sounds strange coming from someone who sells makeup, it shouldn’t.  I do sell makeup, but beside genetic factors, skin care is the first step to having beautiful skin!  The better your skin is, the less you may feel compelled to use so much makeup.  Just a quick touch of mascara, blush, and lipcolor will make a little difference and if you feel you look a little better, you’ll feel a little better!
